RECREATIONAL/NOVICE PROGRAM – Grades K-3 

The “rec” program is for the 1st and 2nd year wrestlers in grades K-3. Wrestlers are taught the basics of the sport with an emphasis on having fun, developing basic skills and athleticism.

Practices will be held in the Westfield HS Wrestling Room on Wednesday and Saturday:

• Wednesday practices Time TBD (first practice 12/3)

• Saturday practices in December 11:30-12:45, Jan/Feb practices will have an earlier start time 9:00-10:15 am (first practice 12/6)

The season will consist of various “King of the Mat” and instructional novice matches with neighboring towns ending in late February. Registration cost is $240 which includes uniforms (Sweatshirts, shorts and t-shirt).

Singlets are provided for use during the season and must be returned at the end . Wrestlers must provide their own headgear and wrestling shoes.

TRAVEL TEAMS GRADES 4-6:

The travel team programs provide mid-level to advanced technique and training with the practices starting the week of November 10th. This program is for all wrestlers (new and returning) in 4th-6th grade. The team may also be suitable for select 2nd and 3rd graders who have demonstrated considerable progress at the Recreational Team level and who display the maturity to participate in structured practices and competitive match situations.

Parents of 2nd and 3rd graders who feel they may be eligible for the travel program must consult with the coaching staff prior to registering.

The PAL will be sponsoring 2 (K-6) dual meet teams for this upcoming season Central Jersey V and JV.

Wrestlers will be split into 2 practice groups

• Varsity – Practices Tuesday and Thursday – 6:00-7:30 pm
• JV – Practices Monday (6:00-7:15) and Wednesday (7:00-8:00)

Registration cost is $300 and includes uniform (Sweatshirt, joggers and t-shirt)

Travel Team Leagues

• This season the Grade School League and the Northern NJ League will be offered through PAL.

• While the PAL leagues and the Board of Education Middle School team remain separate programs, they will be aligned and practice together as one training group.

• The Grade School League also includes a JV postseason tournament, ensuring all wrestlers have a chance to compete at season’s end.

Middle School Team

• Open to 7th & 8th graders experienced and new wrestlers.

• Westfield students must register for both the PAL program and the Westfield Middle School Team through the Board of Education.

• Non-Westfield district students (Edison or Roosevelt) register only with PAL.

• PAL cost: $240 (includes uniforms).

Practice Schedule

• Tuesday: 6:00–7:30 PM

• Wednesday: 3:30–5:00 PM

• Friday: 3:30–5:00 PM

• Practices start November 11th.
